Frequently Asked Questions

What conditions can be treated?

Amatsu Orthopathic Therapy can be used to treat many musculo-skeletal and lifestyle related conditions and to aid the restoration of well-being and good health. It also addresses the effects of stress on the body – namely physical, emotional and environmental factors. Treatments (balances) are suitable for people of all age groups and those with limited mobility. For a list of the most common conditions that can be helped please see the treatment – the benefits..

Do I need to remove my clothes?

Most treatments are carried out fully clothed, you will only be asked to remove your shoes and possibly your belt. On occasion and with your permission, some clothing may be removed temporarily for a closer examination.

What does a treatment (balance) feel like?

An Amatsu Orthopathic Therapy balance is a unique full body treatment that uses various techniques that feel like soft tissue pressure and mobilisation. Different levels of pressure are applied according to your general health and the specific symptoms of your condition. This can vary from the very gentle and relaxing, to the more firm. Clients report different feelings; ranging from being relaxed or sleepy to the more invigorated and energised.

Our practitioners will work for varying amounts of times on different parts of your body that may not always seem obviously related to you. This is because they are trained specifically to tailor your balance each and every time according to your needs on that day and to always take into account your whole body and the bigger picture of any painful condition or problem.

To find out more about the techniques used by your practitioner please see Amatsu Orthopathic Therapy – indepth.

How will I feel after a treatment (balance)?

Many people feel very different as soon as they get off the treatment couch; others start to feel the changes over a couple of days. It is not unusual to feel a sense of freedom or to feel more upright. You may also feel relaxed and sleepy and notice your body standing and moving differently between treatments. Sometimes, as muscles let go of old injuries you may experience some achiness; drinking sufficient water and keeping mobile will help you process these symptoms. Please think of this as your body sorting out a new way of reacting to the changes. Reporting changes back to your practitioner will be a major benefit in your treatment structure.

  • Drink plenty of water
  • Keep mobile e.g. have a brisk, short walk swinging your arms
  • Avoid strenuous exercise
  • Don’t overdo uncomfortable postures which may have contributed to your body’s problems e.g. sitting hunched over a computer keyboard or holding a telephone to your ear
  • Go barefoot at home or where possible and avoid high heels
  • Have a warm bath or shower
  • Be kind to your body. Although gentle, Amatsu Orthopathic Therapy is asking your body to release lots of restrictions that it may have held for a very long time, so you may be quite tired
  • Importantly, listen to your body – it will tell you what it needs

If your treatment has been in response to gastric, abdominal or immune system based symptoms you may wish to try to avoid those foods that could commonly cause dehydration or that are commonly known to provoke stress reactions in the body (such as refined sugars, processed foods and caffeine base products.) This is in line with a normal healthy diet. If you have any questions or concerns following your treatment please contact your practitioner who will be able to discuss them with you.

Amatsu Orthopathic Therapy should not be used to replace medical treatment without consultation with your GP. If unsure, please consult your local Amatsu Orthopathic Therapy practitioner and your GP for advice.

How frequently do I need to come for a treatment (balance)?

The number and frequency of visits depends on a variety of factors. Each of the factors affects each person differently so every individual will need a different treatment structure. These are the most common factors:

  • Is it an acute or chronic condition?
  • Is it an acute condition with an underlying chronic cause?
  • What is the general heath of the client?
  • What other outside factors such as job and lifestyle need to be considered?
  • Is there a specific time frame due to a forthcoming holiday or event?

We believe in educating our clients to take control of their own health. Many clients, once they have resolved their initial problem, return to maintain their health. Some come for a balance on a regular basis eg once a month, whilst others return as and when they feel a need. We aim to teach you to listen to and read the signs your body sends you. It is well known that ‘prevention is better than cure’.

A balance on regular basis may help you to prevent the everyday stresses of life from building up within your body.

Can Amatsu Orthopathic Therapy be used for babies and small children?

The techniques of Amatsu Orthopathic Therapy allow treatment right across the age range. It can treat newborn babies to the most senior of citizens. Please note that under 16s must be accompanied by an adult at all Amatsu Orthopathic Therapy sessions.

It is often useful to balance newborn babies that may be experiencing problems from birth. Signs to look for are: only turning their head to one side, constant crying or screaming, excessive colic, repeated ear, nose and throat problems. All of these symptoms may be helped by using cranial balancing techniques and therefore, we recommend that the Amatsu Orthopathic Therapy practitioner be qualified to Kenku level. For further information on Kenku please refer to the training – the levels.

Are there any contraindications to a treatment (balance)?

There are a number of conditions where your practitioner would ask you to seek approval from your doctor before they would treat you. Please ensure that you advise your practitioner of any medical conditions or injuries. They will then tell you if further authorisation or information is required.

How much does a treatment (balance) cost?

Please contact your local practitioner for full details of their pricing structure.

Can I see other practitioners & therapists during my Amatsu Orthopathic Therapy programme?

Amatsu Orthopathic Therapy is not only complementary to western medicine but to other complementary therapies so combining different treatments should not be a problem. It is important that you are transparent with this information and keep all practitioners involved fully informed.

Amatsu Orthopathic Therapy should not be used to replace medical treatment without consultation with your GP. If unsure, please consult your local Amatsu Orthopathic Therapy practitioner and your GP for advice.
